I reluctantly packed up my sewing machine today for my upcoming move to Germany, but not before finishing my last quilt in Alabama. There is something so final about taping up those boxes, so I am incredibly glad I was able to see this one through to the end before the studio was officially tucked away.

For this project, I chose a classic blue and yellow color palette. I have been wanting to make something that felt very cohesive and balanced, so I focused on using repetitive blocks to create a consistent look. I went with an old-fashioned block for the design and had so much fun picking out the prints. I selected four prints from the Sun-drenched collection by Sweetfire Road, and the gingham is Baby Girl Gingham by Riley Blake.

To bring a bit of a twist to the design, I used substantial 2.5″ sashing between the 10.5″ blocks. This extra space helps the blue and yellow prints really stand out and gives the entire quilt a more modern look. I also added a 3″ and a 5″ border to frame the blocks. The sample shown is a twin size. It ended up being the perfect project to close out this chapter of my quilting journey.

I also want to mention that I had the talented Tiffany Harned from Ashville House Quilt Shop do the longarm pantograph design. She did such a beautiful job bringing the whole piece together. I truly cannot wait to get settled in our new home and finally see this quilt on the bed.

I finally finished writing the pattern, and it is now available in my Etsy shop in baby, crib, twin, full/queen, and king sizes.

I am so curious—what would you like to see most from my quilting journey in Germany? Whether it’s local fabric shops, European quilt shows, or just how I set up my new space, let me know in the comments!
Happy quilting,
Marian
